It's usually 700mb and has no stuff on it

That's normal, the UDF formatting takes some space.

Then why did I do it with cd r and it takes way less space

If you're burning to it it'll have 700MB. If it's formatted UDF, the UDF filesystem takes up that space. Glad to hear it works.

Ok. I'm using it as an internal drive temporarily until I get an encloseure

If you wanted to use it as a portable drive, you could have bought a USB external one.

The only difference is that an enclosure/adapter needs the 12volt adapter, whereas the USB drive only needs to plug in to a USB port.
