R9-290 Temp

Go to solution Solved by LawrenceBarnes2013,

well you could ask @GamerDude ,he is an associated AMD R9-290 Lover ,and have came hear asking about this a wile ago , just sell the god damn thing and get a GTX 780 Lightning ,beast overclocker, great cooling with a Tri Frozr 4 ,and looks like hell ,(or get a 290 with a non reference cooler ,still a mighty card though)

So i just finished my gaming rig with a 4770K, an MSi Mpower, and an R9-290 ,and just joined the forums my friend urged me to join ,living the dream ,but then as i was gaming in Star Citizen ,went out to desk top and checked temps and if every thing is good as you would in a fresh setup ,and saw that my 290 has hit a top Temp of 86°

under load  , now i know it's dangerous because many of my friends has their GPUs running at 60~65° tops ,so what should i do ,cause i afraid it wont be long before it starts fading on me ,so what should i do ,? help

A top temperature of 86 degrees doesn't sound bad mate especially for an AMD video card, what is your average temperature?

I believe 95 degrees is the highest temperature a modern GPU will get to before throttling, so 86 degrees is fine, also AMD cards generally run hotter than Nvidia cards (at the moment)

Also what cooler does your card have?

there's a 4570k? O.o

OT: 86 degrees is fine for an AMD card, it's designed to go that high especially for the reference cards. i hit 75c+ with my asus gtx 670 dcuii and i dont worry about it.

well i'm not OK with running at slightly away from throttling Temps ,this will effect the GPU life span wright ?

Stock Black and red one

Those temps are fine with the stock cooler, I'm sure AMD know what they are doing and wouldn't design a cooler than can reduce the lifespan of the GPU

AMD has that slab of silicon rated all the way to 95C for 47/7 operation. You are good to go as long as it's not too loud for your ears.

[AMD Athlon 64 Mobile 4000+ Socket 754 | Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 | OCZ 2GB DDR PC3200 | Sapphire HD 3850 512MB AGP | 850 Evo | Seasonic 430W | Win XP/10]

reference amd cards usually tend to get hot, I'd urge you to return it if you can and get a sapphire or msi card. If you can't return it get a watercooling block.

My Little Gaming Rig:

Upgrades to come: CPU FAN: Corsair H100i | RAM: 2 more 4GB sticks | GPU: Another R9 270X running in crossfire | Storage: Samsung 120GB SSD | PSU: Corsair 800w
