SSD as external harddrive.

They should last for a few years just fine. You can potentially get shorted offline storage times if the drive is nearlly fully used up its endurance, and if the temperatures are bad.

 

But for backups, I'd suggest a HDD as there cheaper, and work basically the same

 

And I'd make sure to have multiple copies, never rely on a single drive to store data

I have a special cable that plugs into my SSD, and goes our to USB, I have had this extra 1 tb SSD so I have been using it for a storage device. my question is,
Do ssds lose there life when there not in use? Like if i stored the SSD for a few yrs and plugged it back in, would it still work? or should I invest in a better storage solution?

k, cause i have years of research and word work/pdfs, studio work, etc etc etc.. almost lost some data, but thanks to kali linux, i was able to recover it all back 🙂
