Warzone stutters a lot, especially in the menu. My 5600X performs similarly in that regard, sadly throwing money at the issue doesn't always make the stuttering go away.

Hi, my current system that I'm selling for 200$ (price as new 470$)
CPU:I5 8400 (200$)
RAM:16 gb ram (60)

The system I want to buy for 370$ (price as new 800$)
i7 8700 (280$)
Msi air cooler (100$)
h310m gygabyte (70$)
16 gb rams (60$)
1 Tb Wd HDD (40) 250 gb ssd Samsung vnand (40$)

PSu in new system is a dumpsterfire

If you sell your board and cpu and add a bit more money you can buy a better system NEW.

I don't see much benefit side-grading to a 4 year old CPU, the 8700 is already nearing the end of its run. Typically you should expect a good 3-5 years of use before you start to notice some age in your system, and the 8700 was released in January of 2018.

Theoretically you could go as new as a 9th Gen CPU on the H310 chipset, but I'd question the capability of your boards VRM at that point. A 9400/F wouldn't be too harsh, certainly faster than an 8700.

Utilization won't change, it's the same amount of cores/threads. 50-60% utilization is typical on any 6-core CPU for the most part, the only way to counter that is to up your core-count (which is unnecessary). Warzone stutters a lot, especially in the menu. My 5600X performs similarly in that regard, sadly throwing money at the issue doesn't always make the stuttering go away.

Can you please research?

8700/k is 12 threads and a max clock of 4.7ghz while the 8400 is 700mhz slower at 4ghz top speed and only 6 cores, no additional threads.

That's a huge difference. There's less difference from 8700k to a 9900k in reality. Both of these chips capable of 5ghz. The benifit of a 9900K is that the IHS plate is soldered, so there won't be any delid mods to lower temps.

Nobody said anything about that... we've been talking about what'd be the better choice in gaming. The 8700 isn't a justifiable jump from an 8400 in 2022, and hyperthreading wasn't an issue we were discussing.

You said directly the 8400 was the same core and thread count first off. Remember??

Secondly, just slapping in a 8700 vs selling the entire rig to get an 8700 would be a cheap viable and just fine worthy upgrade from an 8400.

Some people don't have as much money as you an I. This must be in the forefront of your mind when a guy says 200$ budget. That's not a lot of money to work with.

Idk where you get your numbers from, but in terms of IPC a 9400 is faster than an 8700. Like I said, we weren't discussing hyperthreading. If we were you'd be correct. Don't try to sit here and tell me there wasn't an uplift from 8th Gen onward to 9th Gen.

Same/similar  IPC... still a 14nm chip.

Your direct quote this time. Cause having to repeat myself...

Quote

Utilization won't change, it's the same amount of cores/threads

8400 and 9400 is 6 cores only.

Period.

8700 is 6 cores and 12 threads

You got confused following the conversation and thought he was talking about he 8700, but he wasn't.

These things happen. No need to be belligerent about it.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

He said the 9400 has the same core/thread count as the 8400, which is true.

I didn't see that till now, going back and reading the entire thread closely.

However a 9400 is only faster by clock speed from the box.

8700 still a faster chip, and double the threads.

I don't see a 9400 being anything of a consideration if you'd use the word upgrade with 8400 in the same conversation.

I digress. Not my money, but I'd just get the 8700 cause it's faster than a 9400.

You got confused following the conversation and thought he was talking about he 8700, but he wasn't.

These things happen. No need to be belligerent about it.

Yes I see that now.

My vote is 8700. I don't have more to add unless he wants 12th Gen, that would be better money spent. 12400 system, aw yeah.

Edit.

Belligerent though? What kind of bait statement is that anyways??!!

9400 isn't an upgrade over an 8400 in real world performance. You won't notice a thing.

8700 would, but as stated, its old and expensive. Your motherboard limits more powerful CPUs.

I'd just sell the 8400/mobo as a unit, and grab a 12400F/B660. Don't waste money on a 5 year old CPU.

ok thanks, the i5 12400 is way better than i7 8700 for gaming. Do you have a cheaper option that is equal in performance to the i7 8700 and dont bottleneck with the 3060ti, I'm on a tight budget. also what is this the cheapest compatible board with it?

Ryzen 5 5500 with a B550, would be comparable

But the 12400F is better per dollar.

You can go as low as an H610; however, I can't vouch for the VRM performance.

Alternatively, you could go SUPER cheap if you're in the USA.

10400F is $127

B560 is $79

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-B560M-ProSeries-Motherboard-Socket/dp/B099TKZX5Q

Or you could use an 11400F $165 which is a bit faster, and PCIE4:

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-11400F-Desktop-Processor-LGA1200/dp/B08X6SZ184

But at THAT price...you're closer to the 12400F which is much better at only $189

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-12400F-Desktop-Processor-Cache/dp/B09NPJRDGD

And you can put it in pretty much any H610/B660 such as for $89

https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-H610M-S2H-DDR4-Motherboard/dp/B09S6NQPM6

I can't vouch for the VRM performance on the H610 either...but it should work on a 12400 locked.

I would absolutely go for the 12400 with a half decent motherboard if you can swing it.
