[COMPLETE] The MESHMOD v1.0 - Deepcool Matrexx 70 ADD-RGB 3F

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd share something I've been working on here, although I'm kinda new to case mods, so go easy on me. 😅

A little over a year ago, I purchased this Deepcool Matrexx 70 chassis that you see here before you. At the time, it was a good deal, came with 4 pre-installed fans, and 2 mounting places for up to 360mm rads (not too shabby for a budget case).

Over time though as my interests expanded in computer hardware, I took to noticing some losses I may have been taking by going with this case. Something like a P400A Digital may have been better suited to my needs.

Thermals were roughly:
44°C idle - 84°C under load

Although not terrible, it left a lot to be had in terms of airflow and noise-level performance, plus I didn't want to go out-of-pocket for an entirely new case.

After taking a closer looks at the assembly of the chassis, I noticed some easy routes for potential mods. Mainly, the tempered glass front panel.
Held on by a thin double-sided adhesive, these two plastic mounts (on either side) holding it in place were easier than expected to remove.

I took to Amazon to find an Aluminum Mesh replacement for the panel, and stumbled upon this: AggAuto Car Grill Mesh ($26.99 @ Amazon)
A few days later, it arrived in a roll, and appeared exactly as advertised. Then, I got to cutting.

After cutting the mesh to roughly the same size as the glass panel, there was only one step left... attaching the plastic mounts.
Using some Heavy-Duty double-sided Gorilla Tape, it worked perfectly.

Dimensions came pretty close to the original panel, although a little large at first. Required a little trimming to fit properly.

All-in-all though, it turned out pretty good for a first time mod! ☺️

It honestly came out pretty nice !!

I have a P400S (predates the front mesh panel), and while Phanteks was selling the front mesh panel by itself, it wasn't available up here in Canada, so I had plans to do exactly that to my P400S front panel.

But then, a local retailer finally started having stock ! So $35 CAD later I was the proud owner of a P400S with a mesh front panel ! 😛

Was the mesh material hard to work with ? I'm guessing it got pretty sharp after cutting it ?

I've heard good things about those cases, I never realized they officially sold a separate panel for that. 😯

It was decent to work with, although difficult to bend straight enough to satisfy my OCD. It came in a roll, so it kept folding over on me 😅

And yes, I originally started cutting without gloves, but after accidentally cutting myself a few times on the mesh, I went and got them (very sharp).

Great job! I never would have known it was modded if you hadn't pointed it out.

I did something similar to my Phanteks Evolv Enthoo ITX a while back after observing similar load temperatures, but I used a 6" car speaker grill to feed a 200mm fan behind it (yes, I intentionally mixed metric and imperial there). Considered going the full mesh route (even bought a mesh sheet), but there's a bit too much going on behind the panel that would be exposed in my case.

That was my other question, how were you able to remove the "roll" from the mesh 😄

That's amazing!! 😂

I never would've thought to use speaker grill, but that actually turned out great, I like it!
