Z690 Apex Vs Z690 Maximus Formula?

Currently have Z690 Formula. I am big on overclocking. 

 

Heard 4 slots are bad for it (waiting on my 12900KS).

 

Will Apex be better for it? Still in a window to return and swap.

But honestly, unless you're getting into extreme overclocking?  You won't see enough change with a normal board swap to justify the price.

DDR5 RAM overclocking with more than 2 DIMMs is basically not a thing. So, even more so than with DDR4, 2 DIMM slots is better.

They are taking about DIMM slots. Technically you get a very small bump in memory performance if you use a board that only has one DIMM per channel. So like a full ATX board but it only has two DIMM slots. 

 

As for OP, if you like actually want to daily drive this OC 12900KS, just use the board you currently have.

I think it depends if you are going to have to take a loss. If you can still return it I'd get the apex

I'm going to hold horses for a minute. Someone on overclock.net has Formula and he managed to get 6800 CL32 so I guess it's possible to almost match the Apex as long as I just use 2 DIMMS. I like the water block and the thunderbolt ports on it so I'll check it out first to make sure I didn't return for nothing
