What Monitor to pair with an RTX 2070 super

Blackjack1336

Hello everyone,

I just got an RTX 2070 super but I’m only using a 1080p curved monitor from MSI. Seeing that a bunch of Story Games just straight up lock their fps to 60 I want to utilize my 2070 to its full. I almost always play Story Games and am looking for a stunning Monitor maybe 4K but 1440p makes more sense to me. Some eye candy would just be sweet.

thank you all again for taking the time to read this 😄

Out of curiosity what do you consider to be a “Story Game” that is locked to 60FPS?

I recommend a 1440p monitor over 4k, because unless you're using a pretty large panel, the difference will be negligible unless you're pretty sensitive to that sort of thing. 27" IPS panel with good color would be a good choice, what is your budget?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

A good 1440p panel around 27" size, 144Hz

A 2070S isn't powerful enough for 4k

If you like RPG games a nice 3440x1440, 34" Ultrawide would be nicer than a normal 27".

Detroit Become Human by default locks the game to 30FPS. I had to up that to 60FPS because I've become a PCMR snob, apparently.

I have an RTX 2060 Super and it's able to get 60FPS with Ultra settings in most games at 1440p. There are only a few exceptions, and they involve ray-tracing, which can thankfully be countered by DLSS. So in Control, for example, I have to use DLSS with RT, otherwise it will drop to like 30FPS.

I have a Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 170Hz monitor. I really like it, as it's very versitile. If I want to play a game like PUBG or Fortnite, I can aim for 170 FPS no issues. If I want to play a story driven game, I can just target 60FPS and enjoy the 1440p resolution. Plus, the monitor is only about $300, which considering it's performance and color quality is a great deal. If you want to step up from there, apparently the MSI MAG274QRF-QD is the go-to 27 inch 1440p monitor at $400.

I have a RTX2080, which is really close in performance and use it with an 27" 1440p 144Hz Monitor, which works absolutely fine.

I sometimes have to tweak the settings in games a little, to stay above 100 FPS, but never much.

So in short, i think thats about the sweetspot for this card.

Yes but the 2070S will be a underpowered for an ultrawide 1440p in modern games, ultrawide is 35% more pixels

I've used a 1440p monitor with a 2060S and switched to ultrawide when  I got a 3080, even then Cyberpunk2077 only runs around 60fps on Ultra with RT and DLSS...And TW Warhammer3 don't even give a solid 60fps

You are comparing the average modern game to cyberpunk with the settings maxed?

Don't use max details as a benchmark as whether or not a GPU can deliver a good experience. Maybe medium/high settings at 1440p is fine.

It is at 60fps, if all the settings aren't cranked.

Really a 2070S isn't designed for 4K, and while you can get okay performance in non too demanding games at medium settings it'll really struggle to keep up with new games in 1 or 2 years

Maybe I could have been more positive, it will be ok on Ultrawide 1440p but with non maxed settings, depends on what you want from your setup

One could argue they explicitly don't, given the amount of vram on the 3080 and 3070

They and reviewers do advertise which GPUs are best for various resolutions, have a look at their products page and the benchmarks they give, they use 1080p for 3060, 1440p for 3070 and 4K for 3080+

When the 2070S launched 4K wasn't even widespread, now you can play Horizon Zero Dawn at 30 FPS, but I think it's not good

You don't know what you're missing not getting a 144hz monitor. Even if you only play story games, the computing experience as a whole is smoother with a higher refresh rate. If I were you, I would get one of the seemingly infinite amount of the 27 inch, 1440p, 144hz IPS/VA panels out there. Seriously, there are hundreds.

Worked well with 1080ti and 6700k, and even better with a 12700k. Cyberpunk is about as bad a reference for performance you could possibly choose. the OP is happy with 60fps.

Unless you need a 4k monitor for anything but games, go for 1440p. With 2070S you are looking for 1080p-1440p, nice details, stable 60fps (depending on the title of course).

Size-wise - I find 27" is the upper limit for 1440p in terms of pixel density being a sore eye. So go with the size you are comfortable with.

Also I would suggest googling reviews and prioritizing good colour reproduction out-of-the-box rather than ultra-low-latency features and things like ultrawide.
