Hard Drives PCB exploded

Bentheren

Basically, today i just turned my computer on but as it started up i saw a massive yellow explosion where the hard drive bay was and my computer turned off. I thought my power supply had blown at first and my whole computer had gone so i took it out and tested it with my spare computer and it booted fine so i was wondering what it was that made it. I also tried my graphics card but it was working fine but then i noticed a chip on my main storage drive had looked like it had exploded everywhere. I'm using the computer now but i only have my 64GB SSD in my computer right now. I have lost about 800GB worth of games and my connection is completely useless at Mbps so i'm not wanting to completely re-download all of them. Would it be possible to buy a new PCB for my hard drive to stop all of my data from being lost? post-9164-0-25136500-1367948560_thumb.jp

If you can get the exact same drive, a technician should be able to swap the logic boards from the new HDD to the old one. But keep in mind that I must be exact same drive in order to recover your data.

I personally know this feel, my internet is goddamn awful. Still, wouldn't try it out, most referances i'v seen say either a) get a specialist data recovery company to do it (which is rediculas to recover games..) or b) Just go buy another hdd.

Yeah, Scotland sucks for internet and i've lost so much stuff on it, luckily my SSD had my important stuff. I might buy another 2 hard drives and put them in RAID configuration just to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Yeah, just chuck a couple of tb drives into raid 1 and you should be set.

I dont think you can buy just PCB. I mean when a disk dies, normally you just buy another so there isnt really a market for spare parts of HDD, besides PCB is the less possible thing to fail on a HDD.

Thats really the hardest part, its very difficult to find the same PCB. But you already have a dead HDD, keep it somewhere, who knows when you might find the drive you need to make the repairment.

I've already bought a new one so its all good. I am currently using my 250GB one to download my games until it arrives so i can transfer them. I will also buy another one for a RAID configuration to make sure nothing happens.

you can swap the PCB boards but they have to be EXACTLY the same, like same model and everything because they change little things drive to drive, Also they say if you swap them there is some info about the drive stored on the chip so it one actually read...never tried so i wouldn't know. But this is a great reason to have a backup, remember raid is for HDD failure NOT for backup
