i9 9900k in z490 or up?

Trying to find a Gigabyte AORUS z390 Elite but at a bit of a loss. Wondering though if the newer gen motherboards are backward compatible, so instead go for one that can support the i9 9900k and later upgrade it?

Don't know why you would want to upgrade from a 9900K but to answer your question the Z490 chipset only supports 10th and 11th gen cpu's. 8th and 9th gen intel cpu's only work in 300 series motherboards.

The 9900K is still a good chip and should last a few more years. I upgraded mine to a 12600K not because I needed to but rather because I wanted to.
