We normally do not provide feedback on reports. No, there's no automated feedback for reports.

 

Reports are just a way for members to bring things to the attention of the moderation team and it's then up to the mods to determine if it violates the community standards and what action to take. There's no penalty for reporting something that you believe might require the attention of the moderation team if it turns out to not be an issue. We'd rather have people bring it to our attention so that we can determine what, if any, action is required. If something isn't reported there's a reasonable chance we won't see it. Intentional abuse of the report feature is rather uncommon and it's pretty easy to differentiate between genuine reports that may not require further action and when people are intentionally misusing it.

Are there penalties for "pointless" reports or ones that are not quite reason enough to take action?

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I can't imagine so unless you're just spamming trivial reports constantly. 

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I've always wondered if they like poems and messages left to them in reports. 

"This is an obvious one. Hope your day is going well!" etc. 

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I always find it helpful from an understanding point as sometimes its not always clear initially why something gets reported for the reporter to include a quick blurb on why they're reporting it and what they feel it violates.
