Cable modem

cxz

Ok searched this but didn't find anything. Anyway obviously my question is about the modem (I guess I was sleeping in class). A modem is a modem and cheapest brand name will get the job done? I'm moving in a month and will have to buy my own. Thanks

I would still go for a motorola surfboard modem, they appear super stable and are quality products.

Here is one:

You can get a DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 Motorola modem at a thrift store for under 10 dollars. You have excuse.

No.

Not all devices are made equally - MOST ESPECIALLY your cable modem. Getting a cheap and/or shitty one can affect your speeds, stability, and overall quality of internet.

As @Atlantisman mentioned, the Motorola Surfboard series is quite excellent. I also highly recommend the Thomson DCM series of Cable Modem. I have a Thomson DCM 475, which is a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem, on a 150/15 mbps down/up connection and it's extremely stable with no issues at all. Buying a cheap crappy modem can cause all kinds of problems, so if you have the option of using any modem, please get a good one. As @xnamkcor mentioned, if you're especially scrapped for cash, you can get used ones for quite cheap.

You don't need to go and spend $150, but you should definitely research and check reviews, etc. Don't know what country you're in, but here is an excellent modem:

FYI, you also need to make sure that the modem you buy is compatible and/or on the approved modem's list for your ISP. Some will only allow certain models, or even certain firmware levels on their networks. On the other hand, some ISP's will let you use any modem at all.
