AMD catching up to nvidia again, RSR to parallel NIS

porina

Too lazy to do a news post, if it is even worthy given this is a rumour.

https://www.overclock3d.net/news/software/amd_s_reportedly_bringing_fsr-like_upscaling_to_all_games_through_radeon_super_resolution/1

In short: AMD are apparently working on a driver level version of FSR which they will call RSR (Radeon Super Resolution). It sounds like it will function similarly to Nvidia Image Scaling which was released under than name in November last year, although it existed in a different form before that. If enabled in driver then you can apply upscaling to any game that supports exclusive full screen mode. Basically it upscales the whole game output, and doesn't so the smarter thing of upscaling game world content while keeping less demanding overlays like UI at native resolution like FSR or DLSS would do. RSR is expected to be officially announced this month. For practical purposes it seems functionally equivalent to NIS but on RDNA hardware only according to rumour.

Edit: just did a search on it, apparently it was mentioned on techlinked some days ago but I didn't see that. Still, might help anyone else who missed it?

I think this has already been mentioned or maybe said by AMD (own LTT techlinked video). that they are going to give RSR which is just FSR? only that you can enable it at will for anything, like the NIS for nvidia. Although FSR implemented into said games are still superior.
