What is the battling like in Pokemon GO?

I did play Pokemon GO when it first came out with all the hype, but remember the battling being garbage and the most basic thing ever of 'just clicking the screen'.

 

Have they since updated it to make it like the proper Pokemon games with 4 moves etc, or is it still very basic battling mechanics?

spam tapping, dodging, and using a special ability when its full.

Theres strategy, at least some, but not mucg

Still basic battle mechanics, but a lot more content in the game, more options, tons more Pokemon, and vastly more stops and gyms. Lots of timed events, and a really great community of players,the gym system has also been overhauled completely from when the game first came out. I would recommend trying it out again. They've made it really friendly to new players who are just starting out. Would also check your community for raid groups to help out on raids.
