Was looking for reviews of LG 65lx540s for use as a regular tv

IRMacGuyver

It's a display board tv that has built in overlay features.  I found one for cheap but I was hoping to find more info on it before I bought it but even rtings has nothing.

My biggest concerns are image retention, processing delay for gaming, and banding caused by low contrast.  My current tv is horrible.  It's an old sharp with terrible banding and worse image retention after bright scenes.

The only way that would be good as a monitor is if you were sitting far away from it, and that wouldn't make any sense to do. You'd be much better off with a large monitor with a higher resolution.

Edit: I'm tired. For some reason my brain thought you were trying to use this as a computer monitor.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

It's not for a monitor it's for a TV to watch tv and play console games on.  Most games now days are designed for PC first and so the text is way too small on my 38 inch tv in the living room.  I need something bigger to be able to read it from more than 4 feet away.  More developers need to test their games from the couch instead of jammed a foot from their computer in a tiny cubicle.

Forgive me, I'm tired and somehow completely misunderstood your post.

If that's the case then I think 1080p would be sufficient at that size. I'll let someone else chime in about the other things you mentioned.

To be fair I just realized there is a separate board for strictly home theatre stuff and the "tvs" in the description of this board is meant to be like how Linus uses a tv instead of a monitor for his PC. I don't know maybe a mod can move this over to that board. @TheMods

Text is probably NOT going to change font size inside a game, regardless of 1080p or 2160p display.  The only exception to this might be closed captioning.

Personally, I wouldn't get 1080p on anything other than a smartphone.  Having used a 55" 2160p TV from even further away, I don't think 2160p is going to be an issue for you--and that's what I'd recommend as a resolution.

p.s.

If it were up to me, I'd take 1080p out back, shoot it.  Shoot it again.  Shoot it once more to make sure.  Shoot it 3 more times for spite.  Napalm it.  Piss on the ashes.  Then nuke it from orbit, just to be sure.

It's a bigger screen so the text will be bigger.  I have a 38inch tv now.

Yes.  I'm referring to playing at a given size (eg. 27") with a 1080p screen vs a 2160p screen.

Okay but that's not got anything to do with anything in this thread.  Also I don't know about tvs and consoles but PC games definitly do have smaller "looking" text on a higher resolution screen because the text is based on pixel size.  More pixels = smaller text compared to overall screen size.

My experience has been that said text is for closed captioning and things like that.  And while there are legitimate concerns about this on some older games, many/most newer games have scaling for font available--as they know that 1080p is dogshit low resolution.

That usually only affects subtitles and stuff like that not in world text.  It definitely doesn't change the text for item pickups or in text on computer screens in any game I've played like Fallout 4 or Cyberpubk 2077.
