2 Different GPUs doing 2 different things, one rig?

MrConcrete04

Hello world,

I have a spare PC with a single 1050Ti mainly used as a heater (running heaven for gpu heat and xtu stress test for gpu heat) tbh but the little 1050Ti (75W) just isnt cutting, I have a gtx 275 (219W) just laying around and since I have a good psu I wanted to ask if it wasnt possible to have both the gpus connected to the same board (that doesnt support sli, only crossfire) with each gpu running a different stresstest. The reason I dont just swap out the 1050ti for the 275 is becasue I do occasionally use it for normal tasks and the 275 is just awfully slow for basically anything these days. I am aware that the 2 cards would only get 8 lanes of pcie but its the heat that matters (its a 10600kf OCed to 5.1Ghz all core).

Thanks

e.

It'll work, but why?

Instead of just running a benchmark, have you thought about Folding @ Home?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Why is the 5800x so hot?

Yea I considered folding too, how could it be done?

Why not just get a heater? It will produce more heat than a GPU..?

Mainly as an experiment to satisfy my curiosity, could it be done?

Yes, you could do that, but why would you just have a system thats whole point is to get hot and waste power...

You could open 2 instances of FurMark one on each GPU.

would I just stick in the second gpu and it would just boot up? would I have to reinstall drivers?

It's really easy. You download F@H client. Sign up for a team (223518 is LTT team), then sign up for a passkey for more points.

You'd find the latest driver for the 275 and make sure that the 1050ti is under the "supported" list

Edit: I don't think there is a driver that supports both but you can keep looking, maybe look for 1050 drivers that support the 200 series

Sorry, I read that as folding and not setting up both GPUs. As @Mel0nMansaid, you'll have to find a driver that supports both GPUs, and then it's plug and play.

Yes it could, You need drivers for the cards though. But after installing that should work fine, yeah.

I second the notion of having the system doing something useful like F@H instead of just wasting power. Hey maybe you like that as well.😀

I think you need two clients to fold on GPU though but the LTT F@H team will know.

The first 1050ti drivers also don't go far enough back.
