4GB VRAM TOO LOW IN 2021

4GB of vram is too low in 2021.

What was nvidia thinking to provide just 4gb of vram with their RTX 3050 lineup. I get it it's a budget card, but it should atleast have been 6gb.

 

the card is easily capable for high - mid graphics and around 40 fps. But is bottlenecked by the VRAM. I get around 60 fps at mid settings. Just because of the vram I can't turn it up a bit.

 

UGH I wish nvidia would have thunk it better.

 

but otherwise rtx 3050 is very decent. Older AAA work fine-o-fine

4GB is fine for 1080p gaming, or eSports. 

 

1050Ti's still do just fine.   Like you said, mid-settings.  If you want High settings, buy a better card.  That's the entire point of their tiered line-up.

This right here, both of these are correct. 

And yes as far as I know the RTX 3050 is only available in laptops, it's a mobile GPU for know, desktop variants may be released sometime next year.

Guess I'll go against the grain and say that I agree, 4GB is starting to not be enough. I've run into quite a few scenarios (mainly Tower Unite) where my VRAM is being the limiting factor.

At 1080p??? Maybe you need to down some of the Graphics settings.

you won't notice on that dinky screen anyway

I know some people with 970s are having to run halo Infinite at 720p due to it not running at all at higher resolutions when you try and start a game. I know that's 3.5gb really but I think the OP might have a point

It's really not hard to push 4GB to the limit now. Lower-tier GPUs have kinda outpaced their VRAM.

You have a 4gb card, lowering texture resolution is the accepted solution to insufficient VRAM. 

 

Additionally, small low resolution laptop screens will have minimal impact on visual fidelity by doing so.

Seems you're just being sensitive.

 

In this instance, it seems reducing VRAM usage is necessary. Small screens, while having more pixel density, are harder to actually see clearly due to their size. There's more to the entire picture than simply pixel density. I moved from a 24" 1440p monitor to a 32" 1440p monitor. The overall image and experience is better. Even with pixel density similar to a 24" display at 1080p.

 

So despite the necessity to lower resolution, the actual impact to your experience won't be very significant. The differences at 4k are barely noticeable in most cases. I was trying to make light of the fact that the impact won't be so bad. You took it to the next level to get butt hurt.

 

If you're on a laptop, you already are agreeing to compromises to performance due to the nature of the platform. This is one of them.

We literally cannot change the fact that Nvidia went with 4GB on the 3050. We can, however, change settings and try to find the silver lining.
