How many cores? Cause if its less than 32 then yea id see a use for dual socket but lets be real here who the hell even needs 128 cores? esp for non server workloads, 64 cores is already overkill anyways

I feel like what i've typed several times may not being actually read so I think I'm gonna just wait and see if you check what's already been said twice now about this.

Welp who knows maybe youd be interested in it but i think its only useful if you wanna undervolt cause yea zen2 dont have good ocability, also vrms on sp3 boards tend to be quite garbage so i suggest shoving some heatsinks and fans over them

not sure why overclocking is being mentioned as I've not listed it

Do you need 128 cores for compositing and rendering?

ask me this same question again 10 years from now. maybe then it'll click

I think I'm gonna have to do this by myself as everyone seems to not be considering the long term implications of a computer and what ends up actually being important a full decade after a machine has been built. Though if i ever need a house of straw I know where to ask at least.

Whoops i guess i was unintentionally trolling you

Well considering that ive seen some ppl still using x58 even a decade ather theyve built it seems like you are searching for hedt or server

Guess you can just buy a 4700$ qs 7763 64 core off ebay and a single socket or (god forbid) dual socket sp3 board

Cooler wise any trx80/sp3 will work so maybe a u14s since you dont wanna bother overclocking

Rams wise maybe go for 2400 ecc ddr4 as those are usually rather cheap, you can just overclock em for higher freq, they go for ~80$ on ebay for a 32gb stick so 4x80 = 320$

Boards wise cheapest i could find were supermicro h11ssl-i for ~380$, though i dont think these have much flexibility in bios when it comes to power limit incase you need extra power, the vrms are kinda trash and tons of other Issues, asus krpa u16 are going for ~470$ but they should have abit more bios flexibility and not have as many issues as the h11ssl-i, and apparently the giga boards seem to be going for ~750$ so rip, they used to be 500$ iirc, though there are some supermicro dual sockets going for ~600$

Not sure on the psu as idk if you wanna f around with multi gpu, if not then a 1000w psu will prob work, i think there are some gq going for 110$ atm

Case wise youll need a large one so prob enthoo pro

@emosun said they won't need a new case. If they already have hardware that is dual socket and server grade, they can just swap it out.

Server grade hardware stability>overclocking. This is even true in workstations.
