I would love some input on my build!

celijahg

Hello, I have done my research and believe that I have come up with a good concept for my new PC. I wanted to post it on the forum to get some other opinions to make sure I didn't overlook anything. If everything looks good I will hopefully buy this PC as soon as possible as I cannot play Battlefield on my current PC and I would like to play with my friends. Any feedback is appreciated, Thank you! 🙂

1. Budget & Location

$2500 North Carolina, US

2. Aim

Battlefield 2042, Apex Legends, Halo Infinite, VR (Quest 2)

Possibility to do minor video editing and coding (I don't know what that requires)

3. Monitors

No more than 3 monitors(Currently have 2), with 1 at 1440p@144hz and 2 at 1080p.

4. Peripherals

Taken care of.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I have had my current PC for 3 years now and I have pushed it as far as I can, I can no longer reliably play the games I wanna play.

I think everybody will thank you for being so concise from the start 🙂

So to start off, Krakens are overpriced for aesthetic & you can get equal or better performance out of an Arctic Liquid Freezer. Dominator RAM follows the same trend, and sacrifices quality on the chips for the bling - G.Skill Trident Z RGB is the best of both worlds & probably costs less. That SSD looks like it's the cheapest one you could find for that capacity, so I'd recommend something like an XPG Gammix S11 or Samsung 980 instead. Hard drives are generally frowned upon in personal systems for their durability issues, so I'd say scratch that for now and buy a 2.5" SSD down the road when needed, unless you truly need the space immediately. Everything else looks solid.

Pretty much everything @Forleb said.

  • Get a better SSD; that one's good for something like game storage, but I'd get a better NVME for the OS. Maybe consider just adding a 500GB one, and using the 1TB for games.
  • Get cheaper RAM.
  • I personally wouldn't get an MSI motherboard, but if you want to roll those dice...

Tbh you dont need an aio for a 5800x, if you dont overclock even an se 224 xt will suffice, although id still suggest a scythe fuma 2 or thermalright macho

Even though dominator are b die they are still hot garbage because of their price, any cl14 kit is already gonna be b die anyways so why bother with some overpriced trash when you can get the same thing for far less

Two things about AMD and RAM.

  • Don't buy OCed RAM. Stick with 3200 that way you can keep the infinity fabric (IF) clocked at 1600 Mhz which leaves the system in a nice 1:1 ratio. Without butchering the IF ratio, you really don't get much of a performance boost until you purchase obscenely OCed RAM, and then you're into instability city. Don't go there unless you're willing to take troubleshooting it a challenge.
  • Stick with 2 sticks. More often than not you can't go high density sticks with 4 DIMM slots all populated. Just assume (and for improved stability/reliability) you'll always stay with 2 slots only.

    Crucial Ballistix 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 is some rock-solid stuff.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it! If everything goes to plan I should be buying my parts tomorrow(11/29) and I will defiantly come back to share a photo of the completed build. I changed a couple of things in my build and kept somethings purely because I'm okay with paying a little more for aesthetics. I did change the m.2 and the RAM thanks to your recommendations, Thanks again and hopefully I will be back soon to show you guys a picture!🙂
