Hey all!

Question for you regarding my brother's build that we are close to putting together.

Specs:

Ryzen 5 5600G w/ stealth wraith cooler

16gb 3200 ram

650 PSU 80+ Bronze

500gb nvme

2TB hdd

NO GPU (yet)

We have 6 case Fans coming but they won't get here until Friday. I'm wondering if it would be okay to run the PC to boot and download drivers with ONLY the wraith cooler in the case. Then once the fans come in we get those wired up and going.

I know I should wait but time wise it would be ideal if I could help him build it tonight. Should I wait or will it be sufficient until Friday?

As long as the cooler is applied properly it shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you don't do anything load intensive.

It is probably best to keep the case open. Also if you happen to have a big fan (you know the one you use in summer) just point that at the open case and it should be fine.

Do note that 6 case fans is really overkill, certainly for the sort of build you describe. Generally speaking two intake fans and two outake fans already do the job just fine. Also if you do want more fans you should do three intake on the front and two outake on the back. You want a bit of over pressure in your case so dust doesn't enter (except through the front where you likely have a mesh). You certainly don't want more outtake than intake as you then create under pressure which sucks in dust from every opening in your case.

There aren't many subjects that benefit from binary takes on them in a discussion.

If you are worried just run with an open case until your fans arrive. Then you don’t have to worry about heat building up.

Yeah true. Biggest reason I didn't want to do that though was because things tend to fly in that house but yeah that's something to consider for those few days the fans take to arrive

Yeah haha I figured 6 fans was overkill but they were just a cheap pack on Amazon to get his system some air. I did plan on doing 3 intake in the front, 1 exhaust in the rear, and then an aio with 2 exhausts up top.

I know I know, SUPER overkill for his build but I recently upgraded my AIO so I decided to give him my old one. This build should create the positive pressure in the build like you described but again not til Friday 😅

Load intensive it's going to get is maybe Apex and just downloading drivers/games so it should be fine. We could tune down the settings on Apex too depending on the Temps we see while playing.

Thanks for that breakdown though, very helpful

Well, i have 9 fans in total, and I could actually fit another 2...

But I tried that, they almost do nothing, gpu temp 2 c lower,  but thats not worth it also i think they kinda create turbulences.

Do you think I should flip the PSU

This only makes sense if the case is designed for it, ie psu on top, that way it acts as an exhaust.

(can't see the 2 front intake fans)

No case fan is fine for a while. Especially for that low-powered CPU. Many Dell/HP et al PCs have so little openings, they basically work the same way even if they have a case fan.

The only concern really are the capacitors etc. since they age faster when warm. but if we talk about weeks, this won't matter.

Adding too many fans is a waste, IMHO. If you use many, run them on low speed to limit noise. Make sure the flow scheme between intake and exhaust fans makes sense and air doesn't short-circuit out before it goes over warm components.

Not sure what you fans and case are. But 2 intake fans in front should be more than enough if there is enough open area.
