Out of interest. How many applications outside of a server/VM applications can utilise 24 threads?

I posted it just so the 3 people that want 4960x's could get this instead, lol

Ryzen 1600@3.8ghz / 16gb 2400mhzASRock B350 ITX / Gigabyte RX 470 4gb / 256gb M.2 / SG13B-Q / Corsair 450w

4960X is MUCH better than any xeon

xeon processors are only meant for servers and computing/workstations

no overclocking and lower clock speeds makes it worse than an i3 for gaming

more cores does not help at all with gaming

there is no reason why anyone should buy this over a 4960X

its just a waste of money that gives you worse gaming performance

If you are doing light gaming and more productivity, this thing will stomp the 4960x/4930k. Not everything has to be about gaming.

You are right. OR you could just buy it at 1K and turn around and sell it for 1.6k. Everyone wins!

Care to elaborate why it's bad?

Because nobody needs 12 cores outside server environment.

If someone wants a super good server, then sure, get two of these.

But for any other purpose it would be wasted money.

You'd be surprised. Most high core count tasks are for running VM's and ESXi servers. Most software however caps usage at about 12 cores. I haven't known 3D modelling to use much more.

People that do light gaming and who edit photos/videos could use this. if they were going to buy a 6 core for the same price, why not get this? As @Windspeed36 said, you could use it for servers/VM's.

idk if it's a good deal, but in my head I want it to be, so it is.

You'd want to have two of those to run optimally on a dual socket LGA 2011 board... You all realize that that's a dual socket processor. Yeah it will run on a single LGA 2011 socket. However not as well as a dual socket board.

Rendering. If i had 1k to spend on a cpu for me (light gamer, lots of rendering) id take this one.

Also some renderers use as many threads as you give them (vray and possibly mental ray, also some "enterprise" ones)

If you are doing light gaming and more productivity, this thing will stomp the 4960x/4930k. Not everything has to be about gaming.

not very many people are professional content producers

most people here are gamers

people who are looking to buy a 4960x are gamers

therefore people looking to buy a 4960x should not get a xeon processor unless they have a dual or quad cpu mobo, which they shouldnt if they are looking at a 4960x

I am assuming you haven't firmly grasped what I'm saying. If all you do is play games, the 4960x shouldn't be considered either, since it gives you no tangible benefit over a 4670k for now. For the people that are content producers or virtual machine runners, than this is perfect for them.

I belief there is only reason why somebody should buy such a processor is for gaming is to future proof and the reliability that they bring along.  Other than that, performance wise right now after the i5 4670k you wont be gaining any performance for games

this comment is so flawed i don't even know where to begin, let me just start out with saying you would be surprised on the exotic hardware people on this forum are using, no, not everyone here is a gamer, and there are lots of applications for computer hardware beyond gaming, a "gamer" shouldn't be buying a 4960x, it's stupid and pointless, wasting good hardware on a silly application that doesn't need it.

no gamer should be looking to buy this and no gamer should be buying 4960x's, and there are many many people here that use hardware for things that do NOT involve gaming.
