is first-gen ryzen still decent value?

Is first-gen Ryzen still worth it? On eBay they go for $70-100 used and about $115 new. I mean, you can get like a A320 or B450 for like $50-80 now.

They're ok, but I wouldn't really buy a new one, and a used one is meh. If you're gaming you might be better off waiting to see what an 12th gen i3 looks like.

I'd pay max $60 for first gen Ryzen. Also know you're probably in for a bad time with RAM compatibility.

It really depends on what you're going to be doing with it to be honest. First gen Ryzen's single core performance is pretty lackluster nowadays, but if you can get a 1700 for about 100 and you use it for other things that can leverage the core count, then it could still be decent value. If your main thing is going to be gaming though, honestly I think a 150 3600 would probably be better suited for that specifically. You could also wait to see if AMD drops pricing on the 5600X on account of Alder Lake, but I wouldn't expect too much, probably around 250 eventually if I had to guess. 

 

Keep in mind the prices listed are what I would personally pay for each part, not necessarily what they're actually going for. I wouldn't pay any more than 100 for a 1700 ( Or generational equivalent. )

 

Keep in mind also that Intel will be releasing lower end parts of the Alder Lake lineup, such as the eventual 12400 etc, that might outright obsolete the 5600X in terms of price to performance. So I'd really recommend waiting for a bit to see what their entire lineup looks like and see what AMD ends up doing in response.

If you want to accept a few issues with the starting generation of ryzen.

else I see 2000 as the starting area to 3000 and 5000, unless one wants to look into APU's or CPU's with integrated graphics. Although sometimes its better to just get a GPU, but either prices can be chaotic.

Cheap i3-10100/10105 with a cheap h410/b560 will outperform all first gen Ryzens at gaming
