Speakers producing sound even on zero volume.

My speakers give out sound on the right channel even when the volume knob is turned down to zero. Is the speaker gone? or some other issue with the speaker?

Every time I turn on/off my speakers from the mains, the USB ports disconnects and then immediately re-connects (I get the device plugged/unplugged sound and the lights on my mouse and keyboard turns off and then on). My speakers are getting power from different mains than my PC. And the Audio 3.5mm jack is connected to the back I/O.

Couple options, if the speakers have a volume knob (potentiometer) the contacts could be dirty or perhaps they're designed in a way that they do not ever truly make no noise. Turn the speaker off and turn the knob back and forwards a lot to see if that fixes any issues.

Hmmm sounds almost as if there's a short between the 3.5mm audio jacks and USB controller on your motherboard, or some other power fluctuation issue that happens when the speakers are powered on/off.

  • Do your USB devices still disconnect/reconnect when powering the speakers on/off if you disconnect the 3.5mm audio cable from your PC?
  • Can you plug the speakers and USB devices into another PC entirely to see if the issue can be replicated?

You're gonna want to apply The Scientific Method to troubleshoot the issue until you can locate a common variable.

Yes. I just tried it, and the USB devices still disconnect and then re-connect when I turn the speakers on/of after removing the 3.5mm jack.

I don't have another PC to test the second option.

Hmmm okay, this is really weird, especially since you say the speakers are plugged into another mains outlet. That being said, if the electrical outlets share anything between them, it's possible that there's a spike in power that's somehow affecting your USB devices. (Though any good PC PSU shouldn't really notice this...)

Next, I'd try moving the speakers to an entirely different room from where your PC is located, then try turning them on/off to see if the issue recurs. If it does, I'd immediately shut off power to your house and call an electrcian. If it doesn't, you might still need an electrician, but you'll have narrowed down the issue.

My PSU is age old S12II. Though I have also noticed another weird issue (I will make a post on it and notify on you that). I tried the speaker on another power outlet in the same room and the problem is gone. But I cannot keep my speakers there, so what could be the problem? Bad PSU or bad wiring?

I am using these speakers for the past 8 years. I just stopped using them for a couple of months (but I cleaned them) and after that I noticed the problem. The speakers made zero noise on zero volume before (that's purpose of zero volume, right?) but I have noticed that the at some volume level, the sound doesn't come from left channel, if I increase the sound slightly, the sound comes from the left channel.
