Asus H110I-Plus with MZHOU SATA Erweiterungskarte 6 port

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

The 9260 controller does NOT support standalone drives, the drives must be in a RAID configuration to work. So it's not recommended.

9211 will be most compatible with everything

I hooked up my Asus H110I-Plus with a MZHOU SATA Erweiterungskarte 6 port  (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B09F2TCD5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&language=en_GB&th=1) and rum try too run 9 Disk´s. 3 Sata SSD´s Samsung EVO serie intern and 6 HDD´s 3,5 zoll on the expension card . butt my computer can only find 4x HDD off the expensions card all drives working. but as soon i deplug 1 HDD i find another that was before unfund. Is there a bottleneck with the chip or anyway that i can use all 9 drives?

That controller card is kinda crap.  It has a 2 port sata controller (ASM1061 chip) and then a second chip JMB575 is used as port multiplier .. the port multiplier chip is like a network switch  - it takes signals from up to 6 sata devices and mixes them into a single sata output (so those 5 devices in total share a 600 MB/s channel)

So you may have on that card:

ASM1061 port 1-----> SATA PORT 1

ASM1061 port 2 ----->  JMB575 ---- >  5 sata connectors:  SATA PORT 2  ... SATA PORT 6

I don't know what to tell you, if I were to make an educated guess, I would say one drive doesn't like port multipliers and then you can't use those with sata ports created by port multiplier chips

New? probably not.

Used / refurbished plenty of them ...  but prices went up for a while because of all the Chia mining craze... I think they're coming down.

Look on eBay for  keywords like:  sas controller  hba jbod

sas cards have 1 or 2 connectors in which you can plug a cable with 4 sata ports  .. so a 2 port SAS controller can do 8 sata drives.

hba = controller without raid featured

jbod  = just bunch of disks  - again no raid features

The SAS connectors are called SFF8087 so you can search for  SFF8087 to SATA cable    (or use words breakout cable etc)

examples

$40 plus shipping Fujitsu 9211-8i D2607 LSI 2008 SAS/SATA .HBA JBOD =LSI 9211-8I controller card  - just the controller card, need to get cables separately : https://www.ebay.com/itm/184890711827

$56  : same as above but WITH cables :  https://www.ebay.com/itm/144168834573 or $55  https://www.ebay.com/itm/293360698922

$53 LSI 9272-8I 8-Port 6Gbps PCI-e SAS/SATA IT MODE FW:P20 9207-8 I+2*SFF8087 SATA  - Similar controller card LSI 9272-8i WITH the cables  https://www.ebay.com/itm/123728044354

65$ LSI 9240-8i 6Gbps SAS HBA FW:P20 9211-8i IT Mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID 2* SFF SATA  (WITH Cables)  : https://www.ebay.com/itm/143604880894

^ this one there's almost 800 cards sold ....
