amd stock cooler any good?

I’ve heard a bunch of people that say that for like a 5600X or something, get a 3rd party cooler because the stock cooler won’t be good enough. What about for other AMD processors, like the 3100, 5600G, etc. Is the stock good for lower-powered processors?

The one that came with my 3600XT was about twice as thick as my 5600X. It was ok for stock no pbo. I had to use it while I waited for an AM4 mount for another cooler.

I've been running the stock Wraith Spire (LED model) on my Ryzen 7 2700 for nearly two years now without issue. It's been plenty for this chip, even with 8 cores. It's just not a very hot chip.

is the LED model better than the regular stock cooler? i mean it looks a lot better lol

The Wraith Spire is probably the best stock cooler ever made by any company for desktop towers.. The Wraith Prism performs better and has RGB but is quite loud. Sadly AMD doesn't cinlude them anymore. Would be good if they included them for Zen4 as it makes sense if you want people to upgrade to include stock coolers in the first generation to get people on board and then just have the chips for them to upgrade into later.

I think the 5600X is "fine" with its stock cooler obviously don't overclock it manually though. Haven't seen any videos or cries saying its not adequate. For the 3100 or 5600G the stock cooler should be good as they are even lower power than the 5600X.

The only difference between the Spire models is the LED. They're the same cooler. The LED doesn't add cooling capability. 

 

Keep in mind that there is also the Wraith Stealth, and that's a smaller cooler than the Spire.

The Wraith Stealth kept my 3600 in the mid 80s under heavy load, which is perfectly fine.

 

If you want to take advantage of higher boosting with PBO and lower temperatures overall, upgrade your cooler when your budget allows.

 

That said, the stock cooler is just fine, especially if you have a decent airflow case.
