what is the raid system on storage drives?

Everyone has been talking about like RAID 1, 0, 5, etc. Now it may seem like a very beginner question, but what the heck is RAID on storage drives? Does it do anything to the speed, heat, or energy? I’m so confused and I’m sorry for the beginner question.

It's a way of combining drives to store data and give, if chosen, redundancy

Lots of good articles and videos that explain this out there, but basically it makes multiple physical drives into one virtual volume. Depending on the config this normally has more speed and can allow for some drives to fail without losing data.

Relly depends on your goal and the number of drives. Raid 0,1,5,6,10 all have use cases where they make sense.
