Do You Need It?

Bron_

Ive noticed that in the monitor market there are some monitors that say G-Sync compatible and others don't. Is there a reason to buy them for a RTX 3060? This would be my first experience with high refresh rate gaming.

Monitors that use a GSync module are generally a bit better than the ones that say GSync compatible (in terms of what GSync is doing). Depends on the monitor though, some are just as good. You need to do your research into what monitors are good.

I was looking at the Lg GL850-B which is a 1440p 144hz monitor for around 350 USD. And this monitor is G-Sync compatible. Is this a decent choice for a RTX 3060?

A 3060 isn't the strongest for 1440p. You're going to want GSync to keep things smooth as you're likely not going to be seeing near 144Hz in most games outside of easy to run e-sports stuff. That's more of a 1080p card.

You'd have to look up reviews on how it is vs a monitor with a proper GSync module. RTings is usually a good source.

I personally don't pay that much attention if a monitor is G-Sync or just compatible. 99% of all FreeSync monitors will work just as well as a native G-Sync monitor. G-Sync used to offer some features you couldn't get on non-G-Sync monitors. But nowadays it's pretty much obsolete as FreeSync can do most of it without introducing stupid limitations or fans.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
