Gigabyte refusing RMA due to "physical damage" STORY

Hello, I just wanted to vent and more importantly share the hellish experience I have had with Canada Computers and more specifically Gigabyte. I was aware about the issues revolving around gigabyte motherboards but assumed that for the most part I would be fine, wrong. I purchased a b550 mobo months ago for my Gigabyte GPU build and have since then been in contact between CC, a pc repair shop and Gigabyte. Essentially my PC would not boot which was diagnosed by a reputable repair shop in Langley as a motherboard failure. As I live in Canada it took months for gigabyte to even see the board and when they did they refused the rma due to "physical damage". I barely even touched the thing since receiving it and am now out $200 and much more importantly a pc which was slated to be done in June is still not built. I am not getting my money back but this is just a warning that you are not an exception, if you see complaints about a retailer or manufacturer STAY AWAY. As much as I hate amazon they are the only reputable place to get parts in Canada, and just stick to MSI and Asus please.

I mean... It's Gigabyte, I've heard more negative stories than positive ones about their service.

 

Anyway, check what warranty laws you have. Sometimes they have to proof it's your fault and not theirs. For example in EU there are 6 months where they have to prove they didn't damage it, after that it's the other way around.

 

Also check if you can do something with the shipping company if that's what caused the damage. They're probably not going to help, but always worth a try.

 

The image you shared looks more like a manufacturing issue to me.

 

Asus support isn't great either, they're about the same tier as Gigabyte. For motherboards ASRock has been the best with service in my experience, but some of their boards have shitty VRM's. MSI is fine with support and has good VRM's on most boards. The quality of support also depends on where you live, for example here Gigabyte is fine, but in the US they're horrible.

Friend of mine had a broken MSI Z390

 

The one they sent him back from RMA had literal burn marks on it lol

That really sucks. It always seems like motherboard manufacturers never want to own up to their mistake or mishandle an RMA claim all the time- MSI sending boards back that are still defective. Horrendous Gigabyte customer service support that there is always something lost in translation. ASUS having a big ego that X defect did not happen and is customer's fault for not working. There is always something that these companies seem to cough up an excuse to not send a replacement, working, motherboard or replacement component.

About the only company these days with a good reputation for RMA is EVGA.

 

I haven't had anything of theirs fail yet, but if it does, I hope to have a good experience.

evga did ask for a triple deposit when my card's fan acted up, (msrpx3) the math was something like a new card+repair deposit+holding fee, given the current gpu market i decided not to rma for a fan . From what ive read, they've start off by sending out defective stuff, then on the 2nd or 3rd try new stuff, and it'll eventually get solved.

 

Unless it's the 3080ti and 3090 getting blown up cause of the aoz chokes, those get new cards. 

 

gskill legit just sends out new sticks without a deposit (i have some 60dollar sticks as backup), though i suspect the margin on motherboards just makes it impossible for warranties, and gpus just get sent back to nvidia or something (otherwise the math doesn't add up)

The only recent warranty claim I made was for a Staples chair with a prematurely (2 months) failed gas cylinder. Took 6 months to get a replacement.

 

Obviously by that time, it was too late and I already bought a replacement chair. As by design.
