Would you consider playing Minecraft "Nerdy"?

Hey y'all,

 

Title says it all, I was talking to a friend and he was embarrassed to admit that he plays minecraft… kinda weird I know but he said that he didn't want people to think he was nerdy and that raised the question. Is minecraft considered nerdy? 

 

I don't think so  I think that Minecraft is a super fun game but it would be nice to know your opinions

In the "gaming" community, no I don't think it is. It's another game with a well deserved cult following. Keep in mind I hardly play it. To me, it's in the same boat as WoW. People who play it, love it. People who don't, don't really understand the appeal. 

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I would say if anything the perception would be that playing Minecraft is childish.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

But I mean is it? I know some good friends who still play every now and again and they are in their 40's...It's a game that is pretty fun for all ages

I gave my opinion on what the perception is. I expressed no opinion on whether perception is accurate.

 

There is no doubt, however, that the player base for Minecraft as a whole skews young, and that most of the associated merchandise and much of the associated creator content is aimed at kids.

 

I think people should play the games they enjoy without regard to show they are perceived by others (with a couple of exceptions). That said if you think people are going to give you crap for it I can understand simply not talking about it rather than having to defend your tastes.
