HP Pavilion Desktop - AMD Ryzen 5 5600G Upgrade Information Please
Info for that model: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c07119927 (Click Motherboard Specifications)
(Costco listed the model number as "TP01-2337c" so I googled it)
Only thing I'm not seeing is information on the PSU or even what cables are included for hooking up a GPU. Would need to see inside it.
As for "upgrading" to a 3800x, I'm not so sure about that unless you're sole use case was heavily multithreaded workloads. Zen3 is faster for most things even down two cores. An upgrade would be a 5600x/5800x but then again, I wouldn't want to run a 5800x in that motherboard with its likely pitiful VRM's. Officially, it says it supports 65W TDP chips which the 5600x is, 5800x is a 105W part.
For gaming, keep the 5600G, its plenty fast, faster than a 3800x. The only real concern is hooking up a GPU.
