Going for a 3080, do I need a new PSU?

Fr4nK_

Hello everyone,
I might be able to upgrade my gpu to a RTX 3080 trinity from zotac, I was wondering if my 750 watt psu has enough power to substain that or if I should also upgrade the psu to something like 850/1000w...
I use my system mainly for gaming, sometimes I use photoshop, sony vegas etc...
Here are the specs:

  • CPU
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (OC with ASUS preset)
  • Motherboard
    Asus ROG-STRIX B550-A
  • RAM
    Crucial Ballistix 16GBx2 3600 MHz CL16
  • GPU
    Asus GTX 970 STRIX
  • Case
    Cooler Master TD500 Mesh
  • Storage
Samsung 970 Evo SSD M2 + Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD
  • PSU
    Corsair RM750i
  • Cooling
    Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240

If you're going to upgrade, then I recommend upgrading to a 1000W 80+ Gold or 80+ Platinum PSU.

850W wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

A high quality 750W unit like his' is perfectly fine. No need for an upgrade unless it causes crashing, which I would doubt. He has one of the highest quality units on the market

It wouldn't be much, but 1000 without full loop liquid cooling or quadriple videocards seem exessive

Unless you will encounter any issues your PSU is quite fine

Futureproof your builds and try not to fry anything

I use EVGA - GQ Series 850W with my 3080, and I've experienced no issues. You don't need to upgrade to 1000W LOL

You have a very good 750 unit, plus the trinity is a 320W reference-class card. No worries.

I even ran a 320W 3080 off a 650W RMx and it worked fine.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
