How to choose a MIC? What is the BEST USB AND XLR in 2021? Want options for usb and xlr so name the best 馃檪

Is there a usb that can match a xlr?聽

So, spending max 拢495 for a microphone. Then + whatever I need for the xlr ( kinda want it below 拢300 but name the high options on top of the cheap too so I can choose )聽

Same with the usb mic I鈥檒l spend 拢500 max.聽

So far I鈥檝e came up with聽

MV7 ( has usb n xlr hmmmm )聽
SM7B ( looks like a god )聽
NT USB ( seems to pickup alto of background? )聽
Blue yeti ( had worse ratings on sound than others?聽

WILL BE USING THIS STRICTLY FOR learning to sing. And then when I can sing lol obviously singing covers.聽
No I鈥檓 not a professional nor at least don鈥檛 think I鈥檓 gonna a becoming a pro singer ( JUST FOR FUN )聽
But I have the money for a decent 拢500 MIC聽

As for what I need for the xlr yeah I heard you need to spend the same as the mic you buy otherwise it wil bottleneck it? If so that鈥檚 a problem. Another 拢500 on top of 500..... kinda pushing it there.

I'm not a singer, buy very I'm happy with my NT USB Mini. It picks up a lot of background noise, because it's a condenser microphone. If you have a studio environment it should be fine, but if you can't eliminate the noise maybe avoid condensers (or harness the power of post-processing or RTX Voice if you have a suitable GPU. YMMV for singing with it though).

Wouldn't bother with the MV7 if your not going to use the USB. Most common thing people find is the XLR output doesnt sound as good as Shure has done some magic processing on the USB which works really well.
Also wouldnt bother with the SM7B for singing its more a radio podcast then singing microphone.
I didnt rate blue microphones when they were still a audio company now there just logitecs bitch.

Since your using pounds Id recommend Thomann as a purchase place even with import duty they are cheaper then UK stores like gear4music and provide better veraity

Depending on the style of microphone. Something more studio style or suited to a quite room Id got NT1 otherwise I'm a big fan of Sennheiser microphones and nothing beats a E935. Thats more of a live style microphone. Used for singing on shows and bands etc. Its got a tight pick up pattern so wont pick up as much background noise. But both microphones want you to be close to the mic.

I'd avoid the NT1-A, as a large diaphragm condensers go it's overly bright and it also due to being a LDC it picks up a lot of background noise.
If you're set on an LDC the 3U Audio CM1 is a better choice for the price, if you're not set on an LDC small diaphragm mics would avoid excessive background noise. 3U has options there as do just about every other manufacturer. I'd recommend you take a look at the guide in my signature for further information.

That interface is also overpriced for what it is, the UMC202HD will do just as good of a job and so far as stands go, the cheap Millennium stands from Thomann do a聽damn fine job.

Fun fact: Thomann recently got some sort of specific license for UK imports, so it's actually cheaper now. I didn't get any of the BS border fees from buying a mixer from them recently. Before the shipping company could charge literally 100's of pounds randomly when they dropped the package off.

For your budget, just get a seperate XLR microphone and interface.

Personally, I'd nab a Neumann TLM 102, then for an interface the Motu M4 would do well. It measures excellently, is fairly small, fairly cheap and full of features.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

I'm on the other side of the world to you guys and still order from Thomann because of the baller customer service, great prices and no-nonsense returns policy if anything goes wrong. I have very few loyalties as a consumer, in the audio space really only Thomann and 3U have earned that from me, if any of the other brands I recommend had superior products in the same or lower price range I'd jump ship in an instant.
