Hi,

I bought:

10100F for 100USD https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i3-10100f-core-i3-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118223?Description=intel i3 10100f&cm_re=intel_i3 10100f-_-19-118-223-_-Product&quicklink=true

Gygabyte B460 DS3H V2 for 87 USD https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813145298?Item=N82E16813145298

Memory for 75 USD 16GB 2133 duel channel kit https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232242?Item=N82E16820232242

I had:

Noctua NH-U9S cooler

Corsair VS500 PSU

Corsair 350D Case

GTX750Ti GPU

Western Digital M.2 SSD 256GB from broken laptop

I spent around 300 USD for components to upgrade the office's old FX 8350 PC. I think I did OK. I also get a huge Upgrade path with this thing. What do people think of this Office PC. I did this because of pending Windows 11 coming out.

I had some hands-on experience with an i3-10100. It's a good chip. In better days, it would have been amazing to pair with say an ultra budget 5600XT when they used to be $260.

The issue now is that it's harder to find comparable graphics cards to pair them with, making their value proposal a little harder to swallow.

If you check my signature, I built one a few months ago for my cousin as a gift. It was capable of playing all the games that I threw at it, and it fully saturated the RX 580 that it was paired with. It's like an old i7 with less cache. Good chip for the price. I'd certainly take it over the Ryzen 5 1600 that I retired.

I am using a 750ti with mine because I have it. No cost to buy a GPU for me. Whynotwin11 claims it's compatible with Windows 11 meaning 750TI.

  • 2 weeks later...

I now built another one to replace a I7-3770 machine, probably will go in to same case. Results from HP Pro with 3770, and results from B460M DS3H V2 with 16GB@2133MHz memory. Changes will be Memory @ 2666MHz and card will be GTX 1660 from HP Pro.

Only thing is the 6 MB L3 catche on I3-10100 VS. I7-3770 8 MB L3 catche. Might cause some MAME games to stutter. I'll need to test.

Ya,

No problem for emulation including MAME tittles like MK4 and Techromancer. These are good stutter tests for old CPUs.

Ran GTA5 bench test and saw about 110 FPS with a GTX 1660. 1080p 60Hz is no problem. Don't know how newer games run.

10100f is under rated for 108 USD at Newegg. Extreme value when you have a GPU like a GTX 1660, I believe these can still be acquired.
