3000MHZ CL16 RAM overclocked to 3400MHZ? wtf

Hello! Probably got your interest with that title. Yes! This is completely real. I don't know how but I didn't even know that I would be able to overclock my OLOY 16GB 3000MHZ CL16 ram to 3400MHZ. I tried 3066 once and it just didn't work. I don't wanna light my ram dims on fire. However, I want to test this. I WONDER if I can get it to 3600MHZ. This will be an ongoing thread! Please MODS DON'T REMOVE.

RAM: OLOy DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3000 MHz CL16 1.35V 288-Pin Desktop Gaming UDIMM (MD4U083016BJDA) at Amazon.com

Its not really a surprise

But you need to check the timings with cpu z or with ASRocks timing configurator

This clock speed will be worthless if the timings are really loose

I agree, I've never seen task manager used to validate anything.
CPU-Z will show the true RAM speed in use along with the timings and so on it's running at.
Be aware it will only show it running at what would be called "Half-Speed" of 3400 if it's there (1700) because do remember we're talking about DDR4 - Key part of that being DDR.

Get CPU-Z, see what timings you have going on and as suggested ASRock's timing configurator which BTW will help you to tweak it as you go.

Got it to run 3800mhz with 1800 timing. Everything seems to be aight.

All of this was verified with CPU-Z. I also stress tested it for 10 mins with Prime95. All seems great at 3800MHZ.

3800 at what latency?

That is beyond terrible... You should be aiming for cl 16 or 18.

1800 is not timing...

Timing, as in latency...

Your kit is originally rated at DDR4-3000 with 16-18-18-36 timings.

What are the timings running at now with DDR4-3400 and DDR4-3800?

And where are you setting this "1800" ?

If you are running your CCX / Infinity Fabric not 1:1 with your DRAM then...that's not great either.

If you are running DDR4-3800 (i.e DRAM = 1900), then optimally, your CCX / IF should = 1900 as well.
