How can I increase my CPU wattage?

Hey everyone, I’m not going too in depth with the issues I’m experiencing. But I have a ryzen 5 3600 and I’m experiencing a lot of studdering in some games and I looked and saw my cpu was only pulling like 25W in a game like Fortnite, a few people said that’s a bit low and I wanted to know how I can fix that. I tried to set up a power plan and that helped a bit but I’m still having some studdering. One thing I saw was in the advanced power settings was to put the minimum cpu usage to 85% and the max at 99%, is there something different it should try? Thanks

well how are the thermals? is it overheating? what are the clock speeds? much more at play than just power draw

Temps are fine, around 40-50, it’s no longer overclocked but my motherboard had it overclocked without my knowledge back in may when I installed it, which was corrected a few weeks ago.

Are you sure it's your cpu and not your ram?

No motherboard Overclocks automatically unless you tell it to. Since overclocking voids warranty and losing it without your idea is a terrible idea.

I'm assuming you're either talking about the "Game" or "Boost" modes some motherboards have or the infamous power reporting deviation where the board misreports the power to trick the CPU into thinking it has more headroom than it does.

In either case, that's not an overclock. It's just pumping more juice into the chip, so it potentially boosts higher.

First, how are you getting the CPU wattage? Unless you're testing it at the EPS 12V cables or at the wall, at the very least, you don't truly know. Software will often misreport the actual wattage, particularly with Ryzen, as it depends on a formula where the motherboard manufacturer has to supply a variable. It's only as accurate as the mobo is at sending the correct values, which it doesn't always, through either mistake or intentionally to juice their boards into benchmarking better out of the box.

In any case, wattage alone doesn't matter. It's unlikely you could get full performance out of the CPU if it was actually running at 25W, but if you could, that would actually be a good thing. In other words, low wattage itself is not an issue unless it's accompanied by subsequent low clocks or degraded boost performance.

I know it was because in task manager it was saying my cpu was running at like 4.1 ghz

That is within the normal boost clocks for that CPU.

Task manager should not be used to monitor hardware usage/frequencies as it can be inaccurate. Use HWinfo64 to view more accurate readings than Task Manager. The CPU is just boosting the core frequencies by itself given there is temperature headroom.

While you are correct, there's asterisk.

PBO (Performance Boost Override) acts kinda like autuOC by taking CPU as high clocks and voltages as cooling has room. It is therefore more aggressive than Intel Hyperboost which is technically also overclocking.

Then there are things like Asus Multicore Enchantment. Also working like PBO, but with Intel CPUs. And also active by default.
