Laptop with R5 3500U Vega 8: up to 2 OR 3 independent displays?

Hey everyone,

My work laptop (Thinpad e495) has a R5 3500U Vega 8 and I'd like to use 2 external monitors with it.

I'm already using one external 1080p via the hdmi port and, since I have a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 (with PD and DisplayPort), my plan was to buy another 1080p usb-c monitor with power delivery like the Dell P2419HC (because the only usb-c port is also the charging port).

But after some research, I found some spec documents about the model saying "Supports up to 2 independent displays via native display and 1 external monitor; supports external monitor via HDMI® (up to 3840x2160@30Hz) or USB-C (up to 3840x2160@60Hz)". I also found some people telling it should support up to 3 independent displays and not 2.

I don't intend to use the laptop screen because it'll be closed, but I don't know it still counts to the limitation even if not in use.

Either way, anyone knows the actual external monitor limit for this model?

Thank you!

Should work fine. If you want, I have an Asus laptop with Vega 8 and a HDMI and USBc display and can test that for you.

Edit it works, both with the screen open and closed

Alright, that's good news! So you can use the 3 displays at the same time?
