All in one PC power supply help?

transentine

This is my first post on any kind of forum in God knows how long so sorry if it's not really in the right spot;;

I'm also new to PC building (though I have done some small robotics+arduino projects in the past) so please try to keep that in mind.

So my plan was to build an all in one PC inside of an old broken iMac G3 but I can't figure out how I'd be able to get the screen and motherboard to run from the same PSU or if that's even possible. I just want to have the one cord plugging into the wall outlet that powers the guts and the screen.

I'll be removing the screen and board and replacing it with all new stuff by the way. Pretty much trying to build a sleeper pc 🙂

If anyone can link me to any helpful articles or videos that would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

You probably need to replace the original c14 port into something that can be use as power splitter

Or if you can do soldering, just strip and terminate the original c14 port (if the port didn't directly connected to the main psu board)

Something like this?

Not quite! Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like that computer still ends up with two power cords at the end of the build. That video was enjoyable to watch though so thank you regardless

I want to know if there's a way to splice the cords to connect to a single psu. This video ( https://youtu.be/_HqnXQ02Yzs ) looks kind of promising but I don't know if it's safe to connect the rest of the computer parts to the PSU that's also running the screen.

Don't have quite the time to watch the full length atm but the actual computer runs of a Pico PSU (google it). Maybe he powers the display with another cord?

This is iMac G4, which after seeing better you want to mod a G3 (which is massive) so you wont have any trouble fitting full size power supply.  As for the single cord power - just fit an Power Cord Extension and Splitter inside and get just 1 running out.

That's fair! He used one cord for the display and one cord for the motherboard which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid haha

Is it possible you could link me to the parts I'd be looking for? There are quite a few different types of splitters so I'm a little lost unfortunately. For clarification, I'm looking at using this PSU-  https://www.pccasegear.com/products/51834/silverstone-sfx-gold-modular-500w-power-supply

And I'd be using an lcd screen controller to power the screen which has its own power cord that I don't know how to fit into the psu :') I'm under the assumption I'd need to split it and put a molex connector on the end so it fits into the ports?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I really appreciate the help though.

lovely site..

just fit something like this into the case and run everything from 120/240V AC - the G3 should have plenty of space + only 1 cable has to go out.

Sorry about that. It's an Australian site and works perfect for me over here but it seems that's not the case for you.

I understand what you mean now, thank you so much for the help!
