Does the Asus VG248QE support 144hz over HDMI?

Phantonex

The monitor has an HDMI 1.4 port, which should support 144hz. And yet, a bunch of people in the reviews and qna sections on Amazon are saying it doesn't support 144hz over 1.4. I have a gaming laptop with only an HDMI port so I need it to support HDMI. Thanks in advance.

1.4 can't do more than 120Hz at 1080p, so no.

It can't. HDMI may technically be capable of it, but on that monitor the port is limited to 60 Hz.

Are there any monitors that support HDMI at 144hz?

They exist, but I can't personally recommend any from personal experience. Is DP not an option? Didn't see the laptop part.

Well that same page also says

Quote

HDMI 1.4 added support for 4096 × 2160 at 24 Hz, 3840 × 2160 at 24, 25, and 30 Hz, and 1920 × 1080 at 120 Hz

and the official HDMI spec listed as source says so as well, so even if 144 may fit in the bandwidth it's not officially a thing.

A monitor with HDMI 2.0 should, but then what laptop do you have? It would need HDMI 2.0 as well.

Yep, my laptop has HDMI 2.0. So would any monitor with HDMI 2.0 work?

Well you'd still want to check reviews for a confirmation obviously. It's not uncommon for monitors not so support all features e.g. variable refresh rates over HDMI.

Is there any other way to get 144hz on a laptop besides an HDMI cable? Do HDMI to displayport adapters work?

No, you should check reviews for your monitor of choice if it's truly implemented to run at that refresh rate.

Is this a good monitor? The reviews say it works with HDMI.
