What G-Sync display are you looking to get?

hammy

I've been waiting for some G-Sync monitors to come out ever since I first heard about the technology. What do you all think, if you're looking to get one, is the one you will purchase? I'm having a hard time, because I really want the G-Sync experience, but the TN panels on all the G-Sync monitors sort of worries me, shelling out $800 for a non-IPS panel seems sketchy to me... what do you all think?

I really want them to bring G-Sync to IPS/VA/PLS etc

TN is already quite fast especially those running at 120/144hz - G-Sync will not be as big a benefit as it will be to people running 1440p/1600p/4k at lower FPS, If i am playing a game in 4k at 60 fps and it dips to 40, gysnc should keep it smooth and nice

Whereas if I am playing at 144fps and it drops to 100fps, its still really smooth yes G-Sync helps but nowhere near as much as the low frameright  high detail scenario

In my opinion anyway

What kind of resolutions are we expecting on G-Sync monitors? How high and low can G-sync monitors reach in terms of frame rates?

They will almost certainly be coming to IPS panels. If Gsync supports surround and SLI, then I'll be buying 3 nice IPS panels.

I'll definitely pay whatever premium price it is if they get a IPS with Gsync and 99.98% Adobe RGB accuracy... though I doubt they'll ever make one with that level of color accuracy + Gsync

Same here. I've already got a 30" 2560x1600 IPS and I wouldn't want to get a new monitor that's smaller than that.

IIRC low end is 30hz before it starts frame doubling for the first batch & on the high end I think they said it can go way higher than monitors can actually support.

Apparently they may be able to reduce the minimum refresh rate in the future but that 30hz limit was chosen specifically with that Asus VG248QE in mind.

None, 4k is the future and that is where I'll buy one, but by theme 4k is affordable in ips models, g sync probably won't be popular anymore.

Really, I think the next time I spend money on an expensive monitor will be when 4K G-Sync drops. If it releases at the right time, it will bring 4K to people who may not be able to afford an expensive SLI set-up. Budget 4K gaming will actually become a reality with 4K G-sync if they don't make it prohibitively expensive....which they probably will.

The ROG Swift will have a full 8-bit TN panel, so color reproduction will be improved over the usual 6-bit offerings (vg248qe included). I'm not aware of anyone else making 1440p 8-bit TN panels.

That said, the benefits of g-sync and ulmb are enough to overlook color reproduction deficiencies for gaming.  I spent some time calibrating mine, and got it to a serviceable level compared to my IPS panel.

main(i){for(;i<101;i++)printf("Fizz\n\0Fizzz\bBuzz\n\0%d\n"+(!(i%5)^!!(i%3)*3)*6,i);}

Wow I had no idea it was an 8-bit panel. Do you have a source or anywhere I can read more on that?

have fun waiting until 2016. but I guess thats the smart thing to do anyways, being on the ground floor of any new technology yields very little price to performance unfortunately.
