If you had a NVidia card, you coulda SLI it. SLI is supported by more games than XFire, and the performance is pretty substantial over XFire.

I can't tell if you're just ignorant, or just incredibly uninformed...

I'm neither. I just saw a few posts ago that some games are having trouble with XFire.

He meant that SLI and Crossfire are two different things. NVidia uses SLI, and AMD uses Crossfire. They both do the same thing--make two or more graphics cards work together for improved performance--but they are proprietary, meaning you can only SLI between NVidia cards, or crossfire between AMD cards.

OP has an AMD A10-7700k APU, which has AMD graphics on-board. What's special about AMD's APUs is that they can Crossfire between the onboard graphics and certain AMD graphics cards.

Their question was if they should buy the R7 250 (which can crossfire with the APU), or the more powerful R7 265 (which cannot).

While buying an NVidia card is a possibility, you would need to buy 2 of them in order to use SLI (which is what you suggested), because SLI only works with NVidia cards.

It's a really common misunderstanding, and even pros mix up the terms sometimes. So don't worry about it. :P

Dude. Just stay away from Dual Graphics altogether. People can get by on CrossFire, but Dual Graphics is just trash. Get the R7 265, disable onboard graphics, and enjoy.

Or even save up for an R9 270 or 270X because prices have settled a lot since Litecoin miners stopped robbing Newegg.
