1000 Watt Psu recommendations

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

The 3090 consumes 350-400 watts.  What future proofing do you need.  As manufacturing processes shrink, typically components consume less power.

The 3080 consumes maybe 250-300 watts.

Really, you don't need more than 850 watts with a 3080 or less.

1000w or higher are still expensive, as they're still bought my miners.

I am looking for a 1000 watt psu and have gone down a rabbit hole it seems, I was all ready to pull the trigger on the seasonic focus plus that a local place has in stock but then I read it had fan problems and possible solder problems.. What would people recommend for build with a 3080 and a 3070, I want some head room and not to run a psu with 100% utilization plus ID like some future proofing. ID like a gold series psu or better, i don't care about looks id rather have a nice strong quality psu.

these are what's available to me that are in stock locally but i have no problems ordering a psu as i will have it for a while

HX Series HX1200 ATX Modular Power Supply, 80 Plus Platinum, 1200W Only

HX/HXi.

Also, you don't need 1000w.

yah i think the 1200 wat psu is close to 400 plus taxes, Id prefer not to spend $500 on a psu

MY cpu draws 130watts plus the motherboard and video cards and I  have 4 hard drives, 3 ssd drives and a dvd drive, I don't think i need a 1200 watt but id like to go to a 1000 for some future proofing.

yes I lucked out and got a 3080 recently after spending 4 days going to stores and waiting in line for HOURS!! I want to use it as my main card and mine with them both off time but use my 3070 to mine 24/7. I didn't start out mining, I should have bought a 3080 in the fall but I cheaped out and got the cheapest evga 3070 the black model, it doesn't even have a back plate...

You'll still be fine with a 850w power supply.

The CPU will barely be used while mining, so it won't consume 100+ watts.

The 3080 will peak at 350w when gaming (300w average) but won't consume that much when mining.

The 3070 will peak at around 250w when gaming, less when mining.

So even if both cards will run at maximum when mining, they'll both consume around 700w  - in reality, I'd say probably less than 500w will be consumed by both mining.

A quick google search says RTX 3080 will consume around 225 watts while mining, so the RXT 3070 should be lower, probably less than 150w.

HX has better build quality and has better protection (multi-rail).
