High temps on 3900X

hex16

Hey guys!

I'm quite disappointed that I'm not able to solve this one. A have a Ryzen 9 3900X on a MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI motherboard with no OC or modified voltages.

Firstly, I was using it with the included cooler and thought that it might be faulty, so I've replaced it with a water cooler. Fractal Design Celsius+ S36 Prisma to be more specific. With the radiator I have a total of 6 identical Fractal fans in the case (3 in and 3 out). After this temps dropped but were still really high. UEFI/BIOS updates also didn't help.

With a modified fan curve I'm currently idling around 68°C and 81°C under load - fans basically run at 100% at that point. I've also tried to reapply the thermal paste multiple times, the last time with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and... nothing.

The ambient temperature is a typical 20 to 25°C.

Can it be a faulty thermal sensor? Or is something wrong with the CPU? I'd really appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Yeah the 3900X is a b#tch. I had lots of trouble with mine too. I ended up using CTR to undervolt it and now it's fine.

CTR (Clock Tuner Ryzen) is a program made by some internet famous overclocker or something and the program helps stablizing Clock speeds and lowers voltage for each CCX so you get the best results.

It's also some work but after some reading you can do it.

I've tried a LOT of things but CTR definitely went under the radar. My hopes are up - I'll give it a shot.
