Choosing a CPU

Budget (including currency):1000 USD

Country: Uruguay

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General gaming, currently Playing Resident Evil Village

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm upgrading from my old but currently working PC Gamer, we had some good times but she has to get her well deserved rest now.

AMD FX-8120
Nvidia GTX 970
Kingston A400 480GB
8 GB Ram

I bought some budget parts already like an ASUS TUF x570 plus, some Corsair Vengeance 8GB 3600 sticks and a WD Blue 500 nvme and I will be keeping the GPU since anything affordable is worst or barely an upgrade.

What eludes me is what to slap into that AM4 slot.

I was thinking going for a Ryzen 5 5600x which is around $500 usd in the local market but maybe something cheaper could also work?

Last build lasted 6 years, maybe more I was hoping something that would last the same and maybe a future GPU if prices go down below $1500.

Don't know where your looking....

https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-5600x

It may be backordered, but they've been in stock for about $350 for the past 4 months pretty consistently.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I can buy it on Amazon for $299 usd and have it in my hands by next Friday but I have import restrictions so as I said, local market prices apply which makes everything 60% overpriced.

But price its not much of an issue I just need to know if I may be going overkill for what I need my pc to do when maybe a 3600 would work just fine and I would save around $150 usd.

Ryzen 5 5600x by no means is overkill (ok it's maybe overkill if you just use it for office work but whatever) and 3600 is still decent IMHO
