Hey guys, so I know it seems like an obvious choice but let me get into more detail. Currently I have a GTX 660 GPU and I would like to upgrade. Mostly for more performance but also so my dad can have my 660 for his gaming computer. Basically he can barely play any games so I'm going to cut him a deal and let him have my 660 for $50. However, I know a 760 is only a slight step up and a 780 is a GK110 Titan-based bad-ass but I want to know. Should I spring for the 780? Or should I grab a 760 now and save for an 880 maxwell later? I know there's little to no info on maxwell but with the performance of the 750ti it looks really promising. Thoughts?

I can play BF3 at 1440p on ultra with a 760, if you don't need more ponies, don't buy a full stable.  (if that makes sense)

I don't think it's that much of a performance increase to warrant the extra money.

At the same time 760 is little to no performance increase considering you're paying $250 more for maybe 10% more FPS vs your current 660. Personally I'd go 880 when you feel that you can't run games anymore and stick with that for 3 years when it becomes outdated.

My GTX 660 is still pretty good... I would stick with it until you feel that you can no longer use it at all. By that time, the new cards will be released anyways. Just wait it out. I don't plan on upgrading for the next year or two.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

A 760 is more than 10% faster than a 660. It performs just a bit better than a 670(but not by much). I upgraded from 660 Ti's (which are much faster than a 660) to 760's and it was a VERY noticeable performance increase. It raised my lowest FPS in pretty much every game by 10 FPS at the lowest and up to 20 FPS in other games. The OP could sell their 660 and use the money from that to partially pay for the 760, even if they didn't though the jump from a 660 to a 760 is definitely worth the asking price for even some of the better versions of the 760.

It would help to know what resolution you currently play at. If it was 1080p, a GTX 760 would be perfect for the money for now. I currently run an MSI GTX 760 Gaming Edition card and I'm completely satisfied with it. If you wanted ludicrous performance at 1080p a GTX 780 would be good, although a 780 makes more sense at higher resolutions along with higher VRAM.

I'm not really looking for a massive performance boost, it will be a small one but another point of the upgrade is so my dad can have the 660 and enjoy his games.

I do play at 1080p I figured it would be assumed seeing as I'd probably be crazy to play at 1440p with a 2GB 660 lol.

I would recommend a GTX 760 then if you would want to upgrade right now. Honestly though, with that 660 you have, it would be better to wait for Maxwell to come out. The GTX 660 isn't a bad card for 1080p.

I know, it's mostly so my dad can have my 660 and I just figured instead of buying a 660 again I might as well upgrade. My dad really doesn't have the money for a GPU so I'm going to "sell" it to him for $50 really I'll give him however much time he needs but yeah.

Im in the same pickle. We will not see a 870 or 880 until Q3 at the earliest, and probably Q4. Thats a long time from now.

I would go with 760, and then wait for maxwell. Its what I will do in August when my build gets going.

Really? My 680 gets about 50fps on ultra at 1600p and you can play it fine?

I also have a 4770k, that might explain a lot too, I get around 40fps for when I want it to be pretty, 60fps+ on medium with 8x msaa

I guess that makes sense. I have a 3770k @ 4.6, 2133mhz RAM (8gb), but I am at like 45-55 all max.

I'm running stock speed, so I'm guessing the FPS counter is wrong or something.

IDK, I also have a 1267mhz on the DirectCU680 (triple slot).  I didn't think a 760 could max the game, but I am glad to know it can!

EDIT:  I was quoting BF4 FPS, that game is a lot more demanding, I was able to play BF3 well above 45-55

Wait a minute, I thought that between a stock GTX760 vs stock GTX670 as well as OC Ed GTX760 vs OC Ed 670, the GTX670 is just about always faster that its GTX760 sibling. But, the GTX670 is usually pricier than the GTX760, and that's where the GTX760 wins due to better price/performance ratio.

No it's faster by a bit but it's within margin of error most of the time, despite the extra cores.
