TechLinked video crashes Snapdragon 845 phones

I've randomly found that Riley's Star Citizen video is so boring, Snapdragons 845 just give up and restart the phone for you so you don't have to endure it.

(make sure to download it first, so that the original gets decoded locally on the phone).

 

I've run this by OnePlus since I use their phone and they've concluded this isn't a security issue. I've tested it on OnePlus 6 and Pocophone F1, both of which crash. Maybe we can expand the list of affected phones? Pixel 3 seems to not be affected.

Not watch it directly on your phone and just use youtube.

Hard pass there chief. Stagefeight was/is a thing you know. If it ain't a payload execution it's probably your phone having a broken decoder.

I just let some of the video play (from YouTube) on my Galaxy S9 and it had no issues. I do know of a few other YouTube videos that don't play right on mobile, but I've never had one crash my device.

It's a specific part of the video at 20:46 and resolution must be 4K. However, when watching directly from YouTube, it just glitches out for me and resumes normally. It only restarts the phone when downloaded, that's why I've attached that sketchy looking download link.. but you can download it yourself, just make sure it's 4K VP9.

Didn't realize it had to be played at 4K. I just tried it again on two separate Galaxy S9 phones (one SM-G960U and one SM-G960U1) and at 4K the video just has some artifacts. No crashes or anything.
