Check the rated amperage for the fan header, found in the mobo manual. Check the amperage for the fan, which is marked on the fan label. Add up all the fans you plan to run off of that splitter. If fan amperage < header amperage, you're good.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Yes, and no. It depends on how much you're splitting it, and how much current each fan draws. Using one splitter to power two common case fans, pretty safe. You can also look at a fan controller if you want to be able to adjust many fans or something like molex power adapters for them if you just want to run them at full speed (or lower with a fan speed limiter adapter thing).

Are fan splitters safe to use just wondering?

Was thinking about getting one for my pc

Look up the max amps for your header, check the amps on the fan, don’t exceed the header amps with the total of the fan amps.

Usually fans are 0.2-0.4 and a header is 1-2 amps.

The advance is generally not to except 2/3 so 2x0.4 on a 1 amp header is cuttting it a bit close, 3x0.4 on a 2 amp header is OK.
