Sim Graphics Help

Budget (including currency): <$800

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Simulator Games— specially F1, Assetto Corsa, Flight Sim 2020.

I understand the graphics card world is upside down right now but looking to get back in sim games. I want to be able to play these on high+ settings on a 34” ultra wide 3440x1440 monitor. Anything in the secondary market worth buying right now, or should I just hold off for a 3080 when and if I can get one?

Racing games usually don't have very high hardware requirements.

Mostly mid level GPU will play it at ultra.

Flight sim is another beast.

A 3080 will be good for those games.

When? Up to you, i suggest waiting until end of quarter 3.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

MS Flight sim 2020 is apparently not built like other games and getting it to run faster than 30fps on just about anything is just hard.  There’s been a great deal of research on this thing but not a lot of useful results.  One would think that it would be a common benchmark like crisi became simply because it was hard to run. It so different from everything else though that It’s not terribly useful that way.  It’s kind of like Theres MS flight sim 2020 and then there’s everything else.

If racing games are easy to run it would seem like the thing to do is build a machine specifically for MS flight sim 2020, and then just run other things on it because you can.  What exactly is required to make flight sim 2020 work well though I’m afraid I do not know.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Everything on the second-hand market is selling at +200% it's original market value because of the chip shortage. Hold off and try to get a Founders Edition card, those are the only ones that're price regulated at MSRP when available (from BestBuy or NVIDIA directly). Go for the 3080, but don't pay more than $800 for one, that'd be an upcharge.

Thanks for letting me know. Is there an actual end in sight for this chip shortage?

I’ve heard the end of the year minimum for some stuff.
