laptop ram configuration question

hey y'all

i know that mix matching ram capacity and speed is not the best thing to do

but what if the ram in some laptop is having one channel soldered and the other channel is on the socket

is it fine to just upgrade it to the highest stick possible? i mean thats the only possible way to upgrade the ram capacity so i guess it was fine?

the the specific laptop i mention here is asus vivobook flip 14 ryzen 7 4700u

Doesn't matter if it's soldered.

If there's 4gb soldered, and you put in 8gb, you have 12gb. But only 2/3 of that will run in Dual Channel, 1/3 will run in single Channel. It will be random, in which part your data will be stored.

If the 16gb Model has soldered 8gb, get that. Since for Windows, i'd recommend 16gb anyway.

Look into alternatives, if it has to be a convertible: Yoga Slim 7i (there are convertible options), Thinkbook 14s, HP ProBook x360, HP Envy x360.

I would take these over an Asus Vivobook any day.
