WHAT IF:

You took TWO GTX 690s/GTX TITAN Zs and TWO AMD HD 7990s

An Intel Haswell i7

A Corsair 1200i (or two)

A suitable Motherboard

And all the other bits like ram, ssds, hdds, a case, etc

Aka 8 entire gpus.

Linus did this with 4 gpus, two of each brand, but what if you put 4 of each brand?

It should work, right? And would an i7-4770k even be able to handle it?

You could have the 7990s mining and the Titan Zs gaming? btw you would need 2000W+

[AMD Athlon 64 Mobile 4000+ Socket 754 | Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 | OCZ 2GB DDR PC3200 | Sapphire HD 3850 512MB AGP | 850 Evo | Seasonic 430W | Win XP/10]

wat? i only see 6 gpus there. 2x GTX 690, 2x TitanZ, and 2x 7990.

The TitanZs you only work with other GTX 700 series cards with the same architecture. the 600 series is last gen so i dont thing so. And AMD cards are another brand/Dual card setup/ and another driver. So you cant run them together. but you could Run the GTX/Titan stuff in one quad SLI (assuming $300 600 series cards will work with a 700 series $3000 card) and the AMD cards together and then leave those ones to mine or something.

You can't quad sli dual gpu cards. That would be octa sli. That is not possible. 4 way SLI is the max. Meaning 2 Titan Blacks.

Lol a 4770kcant dant handle 4gpus neverm 8. A 4930k at least even would struggle to keep up with 4 gpus.

Nvidia Y U MAKE CRAP RULEZ ABOUT SLI?

Well if there is basically no improvement from 3-4 cards then why would you want 8? 8 GPUs would have literally no extra effect

Quad SLI is what it is called when two dual GPU cards are put together, since a single TITAN Z is Dual SLI.

I agree with this, for someone to even consider such a multi GPU setup, money is obviously no object, so an LGA2011 platform would be better. I vote Asus R4E Black Edition + LGA2011 i7 4970X......

You could have one half of the 690 (one 680) playing games, all the AMD cards mining Litecoin/Dogecoin and the other Nvidia card mining Cudacoin.

Hey everyone,

Just as Linus said, this setup is good for a couple of reasons

1. You get all the technologies from both companies

2. You can, as others have said, use a few of them for gaming while the others mine

3. Bragging rights

Also, i did say a 1200i or TWO thats what the i is for, they are designed to work together

An lga 2011 i7 does make sense

Also, you wouldnt really have to upgrade anything for YEARS, or until a new directx comes out and the games start to only support that, or other software incompatabilities. But if everygame was compatible in the future, this rig would last for at least 10 years, still maxing most games out
