I am re-doing my overclock on my cpu since i upgraded my board. I was wondering what the max voltage that a 3570k should be using. Also what would be a good overclock to aim for im at 4.5ghz with 1.25v in bios. been running stress test for 2 hours and the temps are fine, the highest i have seen on 1 core is 73 degrees, going to keep it running under 80. what is everyone else getting with it? i know the overclocks very per cpu. Finally is running a stress test for 24 hours really needed? that is what i have been seeing everywhere and i dont want to render my computer pretty much unusable for that long? thanks for the help guys much appreciated.

1.35v was considered top voltage with good cooling on Ivy.

Looks like a good chip :D

I'm at 4.2GHz on 1.125V stable... I think I did good. Idle 40C, load 50-60C

Yeah, on a Hyper 212 Evo I went to 4.2GHz at 1.3V and I was hovering around 80C sometimes.

Looks like the max im gonna get is 4.6 @ 1.25v gonna run stress test longer to make sure. even at 1.3v i couldnt get 4.8ghz just wouldn't stay running for more than 2 min at idle. eh whatever free performance cant complain.

I need 1.285v for 4.5Ghz and 1.4v for 4.8Ghz. Obviously I don't run 4.8Ghz due to the voltage that the chips needs for it but it's also a temperature issue. The temps at 4.5Ghz are fine with 75c under a normal gaming load on the hottest core and 85c when folding on the hottest core. If I try to run 4.8 it overwhelms my CM V8 almost instantly, after about 10 or so seconds of prime or folding my cores hit over 105c. Realistically you don't need more than 4.5Ghz for anything so if you can hit than while maintaining less than 1.3v and decent temps then you're good to go.

OP looks like you have a good chip.

I got very lucky with my 3770k.  I only need 1.225v for 4.7 & only hit ~80c when stress testing with my evo 212. 60-70C under normal gaming conditions & 30-40C at idle. I'm using +100mV offset, not a set voltage. I need like 1.32v to hit 4.8 though and it starts getting a bit warm with my cooler.

Peoples opinions vary the general concess is below 1.4v for sure. I think below 1.35v is ideal where as others think below 1.3v. Either way as long as it's not stupidly high your CPU will out live it's effective age (i.e. you might cut 1 year of it's 10 year life span (made up statistics) but does that really matter?).

I say 1.35v for most and 1.4v if you tend on upgrading within 5 years.

Mine is 4.7Ghz with 1.120v and 63C is the hottest core with an ambient of 31C.

That's a really good chip.

My 3770K needed 1.4V for 4.5 and 1.45V for 4.6, for some reason whenever I set a static voltage it crashes :/

If you think that is good how would you rate this....

damn thats a good chip. why dont you go higher?

He's probably at the point where the voltage required per 100mhz jump and the heat gain isn't worth 100Mhz :P

I have gone as high as 5Ghz with 1.270v but the temperature was at 85C on the hottest core and i like to keep my temperatures below 80C I just wish i had the nerve to delid it, i would be cruising with a 5.2Ghz for sure.

Yeah, although i could go to 4.8Ghz or 4.9Ghz with 1.190v but the temperature is to close to what i would allow which is 75c - 80C.

You can run at 85c quite fine on Ivy :P

Well I doubt you're being bottlenecked by CPU performance :D

Yes i know but it is my personal preference to not have any PC component hotter that 70C. No i am not bottle-necked by my CPU and it is why i am reconsidering a x99 build and i may just get a new GPU. I am just not sure.

Are still in range to get the intel over locking protection. I got it if I could get to 5ghz even running 85 on a stress test I would go for it but that could be just me

I live outside the US and i am not a US citizen so Intel won't protect shit for me and i do not care about their protection plan as i doubt the plan will give me a CPU that is the same or better quality than the one i have currently.

thats so BS of intel not to support their customers from outside the US no matter in the world where someone is using their product its still an intel CPU they should back you guys with all the same things we get.
