Buying a used delidded 10900K with a copper heat spreader

As per the title, there is a used 10900K for sale that has been delidded and the standard heat spreader repelaced with a copper one. They have also added liquid metal.

Is there any risk in buying it?

Yes, any time you buy something used there is a risk. Doubly true for modded items.

There's a saying in a car community: Dont buy someone else's project car unless its from your friend or family.

Same sentiment here. Dont get modded components unless you know that seller wont ghost (your close friends/family members). But if it is in a massive bargain, go on frankly.

Put me down for a “not trusted” vote too.  If they nicked that silicon even a little during delidding it’s trash.  There are other possible issues too with the liquid metal, but just the “it’s delidded” is enough for me.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Generally I would not recommend getting a used modded computer part. How much is it compared to a non-delidded used 10900K?

It’s not that much cheaper than a new 10850K so I’ll give it a miss.
